Today, federal and state governments around the country are closed in honor of Veterans Day – as are the courts, and Graham.Law. Schools (including my children’s Academy District 20) are open, but honor veterans in their own ways.
We salute our military community. Here in Colorado Springs, we are fortunate to have living with us tens of thousands of the most dedicated professionals most of us will ever meet – the men and women of our armed forces stationed at Fort Carson, Peterson Air Force Base, the U.S. Air Force Academy, Schriever Air Force Base, and Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station.
Supporting these warriors are tens of thousands more family members, DOD civilians, and contractors. And don’t forget those who have already served, our retirees and veterans, who contribute so much to our community.
Graham.Law is a veteran-owned small business. We have a national name, recognized as one of the Best Law Firms in America by U.S. News & World Report, but our practice is local, and most of our clients are local. I say most, because there is an important exception – our military clientele, sometimes deployed, sometimes stationed elsewhere. We understand what absence means, and bend over backwards to help them – a military discount, telephonic consults, communicating by email whenever possible, even going through entire contested hearings at times without actually meeting our clients in person. And to help veterans and family members navigate Colorado domestic relations courts, we created the Military Divorce Guide.
More than half of us have a direct connection to the military – our law firm is proud to include three veterans (two Army, one Air Force), two military spouses, and one spouse of a veteran. We’ve slept on cots for deployments, and we’ve waited on loved one to return from deployments. So as we take today off, we recognize our millions of active duty and military veterans who have sacrificed so much for our freedom and way of life.
