Carl Graham Top Attorney Again in 2024
I appear to have been derelict in updating my awards. When I received notice that Colorado Springs Magazine has again selected me as a top attorney for 2024, I looked for last year’s post so I could simply update that, but realize I never publicized the top attorney award for 2023. Or the 2022 award. Or, apparently, for 2021 (can’t seem to find the link for that year).
Well, despite appearances to the contrary, I am truly honored to again be selected by member of the El Paso County Bar Association as a top attorney in Colorado Springs. This is not a mere “we like you” award, but a peer-reviewed recognition, awarded by the magazine, but selected by my peers in the county bar associate.
With this 2024 award, I believe I have received it a total of six times, in 2014, and then every year from 2019 to present. See the announcements below for details on a few of the prior years, and how the top attorneys are selected.
2020 Blog Post: Colorado Springs Magazine Again Names Carl Graham a Top Attorney in Colorado Springs
This one somehow slipped through the cracks, but for the second year in a row, Colorado Springs Style magazine has named me one of the Top Attorneys in Colorado Springs for 2020 (Note – as of 2022, the link to the magazine page is broken). While I’d love to think it’s for my classy attire, I suspect my clients hire me for my brains and skill, and look elsewhere if they are seeking dashing good looks. In other words, this is not a fluffy GQ Magazine type of award.
When I was first named to this list in 2014, I thought it was some kind of gimmick, so did not really pay attention to it. You’d be surprised at the number of unsolicited emails attorneys receive trying to sell us bogus awards (i.e. “pay for play awards”) which have cool-sounding names, but it turns out that the only criteria for selection is a willingness to part with a few hundred dollars). In fact, there are so many vanity award scams in the legal community that we even wrote a blog post about them.
But when I was again named a top attorney in Colorado Springs for 2019, having not paid them a dime previously, I decided to look into this a little. And it turns out that it’s actually legitimate.
How to Become a Top Attorney
Work hard. OK, more seriously, I had a look at their selection process, and it appears designed to capture as broad-based a legal opinion as possible. First, 900 local attorneys (most of the members of the El Paso County Bar Association) were invited to nominate attorneys – they could select from any field, not just their own.
Then, once the ballots were completed, the magazine itself selected from the candidates – OK, that part appears a bit opaque, but judging on who was selected, they are getting something right.
As the magazine points out:
“The field of law is a profession that relies heavily on attorneys referring to one another. Peer review is a very effective method of determining who is outstanding in the field because it’s based on the opinions of those in the know: their colleagues.”
Other Top Colorado Springs Family Law Attorneys
And I’m in good company – the list of the Top Attorneys selected in the areas of family law or military law contains many familiar faces from other award lists: Lisa Dailey, Matt Clawson, Dave Johnson, Joi Kush, Mike Luchetta & Jeanne Wilson. And most not for the first time. I salute all of you, and look forward to being on similar lists together in the future!
2019 Blog Post: 2019 Top Attorneys in Colorado Springs. Again.
It’s been whirlwind of positive news. First, Graham.Law was just one of just three Colorado Springs family law firms to make the 2019 list of Best Law Firms in America from Best Lawyers and U.S. News & World Report.
Now Colorado Springs Style Magazine has published its Colorado Springs 2019 Top Attorneys list (2022 Note – the magazine has changed its name to Colorado Springs Magazine, and in the process, broken the URLs for the past awards, so this link now takes you to the 2022 awards)- and we are on that list – for the second time! Carl Graham was on the 2014 Top Attorneys list as well.
Despite the publication’s name, this award does not mean you’re going to be seeing us on the cover of GQ, or the TV show Suits. It is a serious award, voted on by our peers – only attorneys in the El Paso County Bar Association are eligible. So this recognition means something in that it is truly a recognition from the Colorado Springs legal community.
Colorado Springs Style invited approximately 900 licensed attorneys in El Paso County to participate in voting, so this is broad-based. Thank you to the magazine for organizing the poll, and to our fellow El Paso County family law attorneys for their confidence in our firm.
As reflected in the list below, this award is just one of many won by Graham.Law. Click on the links for more information about why we are among the top attorneys in El Paso County, or schedule a consult with us.
